Bernd Cordes

Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Program Officer

Bernd is a program officer who, for the last four years, has helped manage the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Conservation and Markets Initiative, with a particular focus on interactions between seafood production and ocean health.

For nearly 30 years Bernd has worked on efforts to conserve both terrestrial and marine life, mostly in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Melanesia and Micronesia. That includes 12 years at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, where he managed both the Western Pacific coastal marine conservation program and the Shorebird and Seabird Conservation Initiative, and nearly seven years with the Biodiversity Conservation Network, an initiative that explored enterprise-based incentives to sustainably manage forest and near shore habitats.

Bernd has a master of public policy and a master of arts in Asian area studies, both from the University of Michigan, and earned his undergraduate degree from Occidental College in Soviet and West European Studies. He and his family live in Half Moon Bay, California.
