Advancing public and private policy commitments

Informing, advancing, and driving public and private policy commitments and action that value nature, build coastal resilience, reduce ocean risk, and accelerate the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); by acting as a connector and catalyst for cross-sector collaboration across the Global North and South; and advancing global action to address ocean risk and improve coastal resilience, with policymakers, finance leaders, and investors.

Breaking wave – shadow

ORRAA’s agility together with the diversity of its membership enables it to interlink policy and governance, science and research and financial innovation effectively and efficiently, so that financial and insurance decisions are made through a blue lens. We strive to break down silos that typically separate these areas, showing how investment into coastal ecosystems is a sound business proposition: reducing risk and building climate resilience; creating an avenue to sustainable development; and building more financially- and socially-resilient communities. We work across geographies to achieve this.

The Alliance engages in private sector as well as public policy fora to inform, advance and drive commitments and action that value marine biodiversity and Nature based Solutions, build coastal resilience and reduce ocean risk.

By participating in key events and discussions, we advance the global narrative on ocean risk and coastal resilience with policymakers, finance leaders and investors, acting as a connector and catalyst for cross-sector collaboration across the Global North and South and bringing crucial private sector commitments and expertise to support government and not-for-profit action.

ORRAA also works to develop and amplify strategic communications that drive public and private policy action. ORRAA’s #BackBlue Ocean Finance Commitment is designed to encourage the finance sector to incorporate the ocean into climate finance and insurance decisions by committing to net zero, endorsing the UN’s Blue Economy Principles and joining ORRAA.
