Dear ORRAA Members and Friends,
Welcome to the latest edition of The ORRAA News!
A journey through space and around the Moon made the news this past quarter. The rocket fuel (hopefully sustainable) being injected into scaling ocean finance seems to have resulted in similar momentum, with gatherings taking place from Singapore to Monaco, and Mombasa to London. Despite world geopolitics, our community has continued to show up to demonstrate multilateralism and collaboration in action.
Nowhere was this clearer than at our Third ORRAA Member Meeting where we convened over 200 attendees in London and online. Thank you to everyone who joined! At the Member Meeting, we showed how we are taking action across the Alliance to scale solutions from the beachfront to the boardroom. We launched new partnerships, a new report, new funding commitments to scale products, kicked-off of our Action Agenda, and heard inspiring remarks from members across our Alliance.
Impact and implementation were key focuses across this quarter. Interested in the numbers? Well, four-and-a-half years of ORRAA investment is showing a 1:4 to 1:6 leverage ratio, with the $26 million invested directly into initiatives resulting in $140 million of finance mobilised, over 500,000 people supported to be more resilient (nearly half of whom are women), and over 1.4 million hectares of coastal ecosystems protected. We’ve also learned key lessons along the way so we can share knowledge across our Alliance and adapt forward.
A huge welcome to our newest members: UNEP Finance Initiative, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Kanaloa, MENA Oceans Initiative by Goumbook, Squire Patton Boggs, Sustain Value, and Vital Oceans at C Minds. We’ve had a jam-packed few months, so please read on, and keep that momentum building!
As always, if you have any questions or would like to set up a call to catch up with the team, please do let us know. In addition, if you have any news you would like us to share/amplify, please send a note to Secretariat@oceanriskalliance.org or post it in the LinkedIn Member Community Group.
